OBAA YAA FRIMPONG FORMALLY DECLARES CANDIDACY FOR NPP NATIONAL FIRST VICE CHAIRPERSON

Aurora, Colorado / Accra, Ghana — Mrs. Yaa Amponsah Frimpong, known widely in party circles as Obaa Yaa, and currently serving as Chairlady of the New Patriotic Party’s USA Branch, today formally declared her candidacy for the position of National First Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party ahead of the September 20, 2026 National Executive Officers elections.
“This is not a campaign of ambition. It is a call of duty. The NPP does not merely need leaders who speak — it needs leaders who hold. Leaders who, when the season demands stillness, provide it. When the party requires wisdom, offer it. When unity is fragile, protect it. I am that leader,” said Mrs. Frimpong.
Mrs. Frimpong brings to her candidacy nearly three decades of unbroken NPP service, two elected terms as NPP-USA Chairlady, delegate experience at two National Flagbearer Congresses, and a record of institutional building and financial investment in the party that is without parallel in the diaspora.
Why the NPP Needs a Builder at the Vice Chair Level.
The National First Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party is not a ceremonial post. It is the party’s administrative backbone — the office through which internal cohesion is nurtured, governance systems are maintained, and the chairman’s vision is given operational form. In 2026, with the NPP rebuilding after a significant electoral reversal, this office is not merely important. It is critical.
The party does not need a Vice Chairperson who will learn on the job. It needs one who arrives knowing the job — who has built digital membership systems, managed audited accounts, navigated internal elections, hosted international conferences, and led ground campaigns across twelve regions of Ghana. Obaa Yaa Amponsah Frimpong has done exactly that.
The Diaspora’s Rightful Place in NPP’s National Leadership.
The NPP’s external branches are among the most active, most financially invested, and most logistically committed components of the party’s national ecosystem. They show up in Ghana during elections — not as observers, but as campaigners. And yet, the external branches have rarely been represented at the highest levels of the party’s national executive structure. That must change.
Obaa Yaa Amponsah Frimpong’s candidacy is not a diaspora candidacy. It is a party candidacy, grounded in a record of service that spans both sides of the Atlantic and every level of the NPP’s internal structure. But it does represent the moment in which the diaspora’s long service is brought to the table where the party’s most consequential decisions are made.
