Obaa Yaa has been married for 27 years to Mr. Anthony Gyimah-Frimpong. Together they built not only a home but a business: an Accounting and Tax Services firm in Aurora, Colorado that now serves over 3,000 clients. Together they raised three sons — Jerome, Simon-Peter, and Aaron — all now adults who have grown up watching their mother serve a party and a country she has never stopped loving from afar.
Her family has been her anchor and her witness. They have seen the early morning calls to Ghana, the late-night planning sessions, the conference weekends, the election cycle trips to constituencies from Bolgatanga to Cape Coast. They know what commitment looks like. And they have never asked her to stop.
Before she was a party leader, Obaa Yaa was a social worker.
For 14 years at the Excelsior Youth Center in Colorado, she worked with court-mandated adolescent girls — young women navigating identity, trauma, peer pressure, and complex family dynamics. It was demanding, unglamorous, and essential work. And it taught her the most important lesson of her life: that no one is beyond redemption, and no one should be left behind.

One of the most distinctive dimensions of Obaa Yaa’s leadership is the NPP Global Medical Team — a health outreach programme she led across three election cycles, bringing free medical services into communities that often had no other access. Breast cancer screenings, eye screenings, primary care referrals, and even community streetlights: these are the tangible, human-centred investments of a leader who understands that parties earn trust not only at the ballot box but in the communities they serve.
